Which tools can I use to promote my affiliate marketing programs?

Posted in: Affiliate Marketing |

I have have noted that earning income using affiliate marketing programs takes time as it is not easy to rank high quickly on search engines. The fast methods seem to be expensive.

Hi There
I have been involved in the internet affiliate marketing business for several years now. Please believe me when I say there are no quick ways to build lists or attract new affiliates. It takes time and perseverance. It can be very frustrating at times. I have spent hours and hours trying to promote different affiliate programs and attract new affiliates. The biggest disappointments are after working hard to attract new affiliates is to find that only about 5% of them are willing to work at the particular program. The other 95% just sit back and wait for you to do the work for them. If the particular program requires that they have to pay a fee then your recruiting efforts are mostly for naught.
The people that make big bucks in the Affiliate Marketing business are those that invest large amounts of money in advertising and pay per click marketing. All these hypes that we see everyday about joining super list building programs, video courses, fantastic affiliate programs and all the other tremendous offers is just to get our money. They expect people like us to invest in these programs and fail. After failing most of us move onto another program that looks unbelievable and fail again. That’s how THEY make their big bucks.
I am not saying that you cannot make money with affiliate marketing. There are some good programs out there that will work for the right people with the right skills and who are willing to invest the time and money. I will keep trying though. Recently I have gotten interested in the social networking aspect of the internet marketing. Namely Twitter. Twitter is quick, easy and fun place to meet and exchange information and ideas and you can actually make a few bucks.
I have searched out some great tools and Ebooks that can help attract interested followers! Most of them are free.
For example Social Oomph, http://www.socialoomphblog.com/ ,Tweet Spinner https://tweetspinner.com , Twitter Karma, http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/ , Hoot Suite http://hootsuite.com/ just mention a few, are all great programs for attracting followers who are interested in your particular niche.
There are also some great eBooks available to help you, such as My Twitter Tool Box with 350 twitter tools (most of them free)at http://mytwittertoolbox.tk/ or Twitter for Internet Marketers at http://twitterforinternetmarketers.tk plus much more at http://moretwitterinfo.tk/

I wish you great success in whatever your endeavors might be.

Posted in: Affiliate Marketing |

I really want to start making money online but I am still unsure of how to become part of an Affiliate Marketing company. The one thing that I have been looking into is the type of thing where you sponsor a link for a website and then if that website creates income because of your link, then you receive a percentage of that revenue. PLEASE! If you know anything about this concept/process then please let me know!

Can keyword rich div ids increase search engine optimization?

Posted in: Search Engine Optimization |

Do search engines take the names of DOM elements like divs and tables into account. So for example would a div called "some keyword" be better than one called "body"?

Search engines don’t index elements. When the page is spidered the tags would be removed (and possibility the content within the tag ie: <script>) and the straight text parsed and indexed. Otherwise scripts, styles, etc would be indexed and yeild unfavourable results.

They could however use them to navigate the page and well formed HTML will parse better and yield better results. Image tags could be indexed for image searches and links could be spidered.

How to do SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on php pages?

Posted in: Search Engine Optimization |

I have an existing website with a combination of html and php pages. I want to optimize some of these pages for search engines. Will the same techniques (keywords, descriptions, etc) that work on html pages work on php pages?

You optimize .php pages the exact same way you optimize .html pages. The search engines NEVER see your PHP code… they see the resulting HTML that gets rendered server-side by the PHP. It’s the HTML that is returned when the crawler requests the page that gets indexed and used for ranking.

As far was "what" to optimize, there is basically two types of optimization… on-page and off-page optimization. On-page optimization means using elements ON the page to help your page rank. Off-page optimization is using elements OFF the page (on other pages of your site as well as on pages on other sites) to help your page rank.

Overall, it is off-page factors that carry the most weight… i.e. inbound links from other pages using your targeted keyword phrase or slight variations as the link text… preferably from pages that are relevant to the topic you’re trying to rank for and pages with high PR or link popularity. It’s estimated that off-page factors might influence 70-80% of your overall ranking while on-page factors might influence 20-30% of your overall ranking.

Here’s a quick rundown of on-page factors:

Optimizing the title element is very important since it’s generally the most important on-page ranking factor for most search engines ranking algorithms. The title should target a single keyword phrase (possibly 2-3 IF they are VERY similar… almost identical in meaning and keywords). Minimize "fluff" words in the title element as they reduce the keyword density within that HTML element and thus make the real keyword phrase(s) you want to rank for seem less important. Put the most important keyword phrase first in the title element if you have multiple keyword phrases in the title. Avoid putting your site name in the title as it only hurts your page’s ability to rank.

The h1 element is generally the 2nd most important on-page ranking factor. It should reinforce the keyword phrase(s) targeted in the title. Since it’s less important from a ranking perspective, it’s ok to add a few fluff words to give it more pazzazz or marketing flair. But again keyword density withing the h1 element does affect rankings slightly. Every page should have a single h1.

The h2 element is generally the 3rd most important on-page ranking factor. If your content lends itself to have sub-headers, then use them… again targeting keywords from the title element.

Words that are emphasized using bold or strong/italics or em are given a little more weight than words that are not. But I avoid this as it tends to make pages look spammy.

Using keywords that your title is targeting in the page name is also useful. It’s a very minor ranking factor but MOST ranking factors are minor. It’s rarely any single thing that you do that makes a page rank well. It’s the sum of lots of small things that you do that when taken as a whole leads to good rankings.

Optimizing the meta keywords element is virtually worthless. Google and most search engines ignore it in their ranking algorithm because it has been sooooooooooo abused by blackhats and spammers over the last decade. Yahoo! is still using it to rank pages as Danny Sullivan (a renowned SEO) proved just days after a Yahoo! exec announced at SMX that Yahoo! did NOT use it. I include a meta keywords element in all of my pages just for completeness (not for rankings). I use 5-10 keyword phrases and ONLY words/phrases that appear on the page.

The meta description is also ignored by Google and most search engines for the same reason… it is not displayed on the page so it has been abused by spammers and blackhat SEOs. BUT optimizing the meta description element is VERY important since having a good meta description with a call to action can greatly improve click-thru-rate when your page appears in the SERPs and the meta description is shown as the snippet of text for your organic listing. At Google they only show your meta description if all keywords in the user’s search phrase appear in the meta description. So I recommend including all keywords from your title in the meta description since the keyword phrases in the title "should" be the pages most often used to find your page if it is well optimized. This will maximize how often it is shown as the Google snippet.

As far as off-page factors (which are the absolute MOST important ranking factors at almost all engines):

The link text used in hyperlinks pointing to your page give the search engines STRONG clues as to what your page is about. Using "Click here" as link text for a hyperlink is worthless… it only helps you rank for the keyword phrase "click here". Be very cognizant of how you link to your pages both on your site on from other sites where you might drop a link.

Inbound links from relevant and/or high PR pages on external sites with your targeted keyword phrase (from your page’s title) or slight variations are the MOST important thing you can do to help your page rank for its

Should I use Yahoo’s "pay per click" or yellowpages.com for search engine marketing on yahoo.com?

Posted in: Search Engine Marketing |

I am looking to advertise my business on Yahoo’s search engine. I was wondering if it is more beneficial to use Yahoo’s "pay per click" option or if I should use yellowpages.com "guaranteed clicks" to show up on Yahoo’s search engine? With yellowpages.com I would pay for a sum of either 30 clicks, or 60 clicks, and so on. If anyone is familiar with these options I would love to hear any advice you might have. Thanks!

Try google adwords rather yahoo SEM although it has low pricing as comapre to google adwords but low conservation rate

How would you go about convincing an overworked economist that using social media is a good idea?

Posted in: Social Media |

This was a question that was posed to me and I’d be interested in receiving opinions on the matter. Thanks!

I’d look into how it could help them out =]

for example, maybe it would be a good break from all the work they have to do. Or a nice change.

Or, maybe they could use something like that to network and to contact new people to work for/with. Or to organise the ones they currently have in a way that they are more likely to appreciate and notice.

OR, you could convince them that because they are working too hard and boring, it’s time to branch out and do something ‘cool’ so that people are more likely to enjoy their company =] Which of course could benefit them in the workplace because people will think they’re a better person thus work better with them, and in their personal life, because they can make friends better :P

How not to Waste Your Time With Social Networking

Posted in: Social Media |

You hear two things about Social Media — that is is a great way to make connections but also that it can be a tremendous waste of time. Both of these statements are true. The difference in your results will depend upon your preparation. If you don’t have a strong sense of your brand or a basic strategy behind your use of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, you can make a lot of friends but not see the results in your business.

You do not get sales directly from networking (online or offline). You can meet new people and get them to want to learn more about you. Your efforts to network for business will be in vain if you have not put some thought and effort into what happens once your new online acquaintances click onto your web page.

Here are five things that you can do before you start spending time on social networking sites to make your time spent more productive.

1. Have a Clearly Defined Target Audience

To be successful in marketing, you need to have a well-defined target audience. Networking online is a great way not only to connect with members and thought leaders of your target audience, but to learn about them. In order to effectively, use social marketing for research, you need to know who to connect with.

2. Have Something To Give.

Social networking (or any networking) is more about giving than receiving. Start finding interesting pages and resources to refer people to in your tweets and postings. You’ll quickly get a reputation for being an expert.

3. Have an Inviting Home to invite People to Visit.

Twitter and Facebook are places to get acquainted. Deep friendships bloom when people can get to know you better. On your profile, point people to an interesting and engaging website or blog that makes your new friends want to get to know you better and visit your blog often.

4. Create a Strong Personal Brand.

Know who you are and what makes you interesting. Use that brand on your blog, in your profile and in the subjects you choose to post about.

5. Know Your Next Steps.

When someone comes to your site to learn more — what’s next? Make sure that you have a funnel developed that gently and naturally leads people from getting to know you on social networking to becoming loyal clients.

Follow these five steps and you will not only improve your social networking results, you will improve your marketing in general because you will make it easier for people to learn more about you and to become your client.

How Social Networking Sites Can Derail your Job Search

Posted in: Social Media |

For many, the start of a new year means the start of a new job search using the internet to research employers. For up coming college graduates in particular, it is opportunity to get a head start in getting their careers off the ground using online resources. At the same time, many employers are also researching potential job candidates through Google, Myspace.com and Facebook.com and what they are finding could be used as reasons not to hire you.

A recent poll conducted for Careerbuilder.com showed that 26 percent of hiring managers admitted to using the Internet to perform background checks on job candidates. A further 12 percent admitted to using social networking sites such as MySpace.com and Facebook.com as a screening tool.

For many college students, social networking sites such as Facebook.com and Myspace.com are a core part of their cyber profile used for networking. However, many students are surprised to learn that their candid and sometimes sexually explicit photos and the details of their drinking and dating lives in their profiles can negatively affect their job search. Those disparaging comments, risqué photos, inappropriate language and lewd jokes posted on their profiles could be viewed as a reflection of their character by a potential employer.

According to an HR director, people should carefully consider their potential audience and the impression they may have based on your pictures, personal opinions, and ideas posted online. “We were in the process of extending an offer to a great candidate, until his myspace.com page was brought to our attention. He had a great resume, went to an elite school and had impeccable references. However, our review of his myspace profile highlighted his recreational drug use. This made us immediately reconsider hiring him,” says an HR Director for a financial services company in Toronto, Ontario. “Our company is very conscious of client relations and our public image and we could not risk this candidate’s background being taken as a reflection of our organization. “

A recent poll of Resume Solutions student clients showed that over 60% of the respondents were unaware that their profiles on social networking websites could be viewed by potential employers. This is surprising, despite the increased media attention focused on employers reviewing Myspace and Facebook prior to making hiring decisions.

Prior to starting a new job search, it is recommended that job seekers perform a Google search on their names to find out what a potential employer may read or see about them online. If any questionable content is discovered, content you would not feel comfortable if an employer or your parents view, then request that the site’s webmaster remove it immediately. Questionable content may include nude photos, slanderous comments or photographs that show you in inappropriate situations. Keep in mind you may encounter resistance in getting the content removed, however, you can let them know that they may be affecting your future job prospects and you may have no choice but to seek legal recourse. For that information, that you absolutely cannot have removed due to lack of control, construct a plausible answer to counter or explain away to a hiring manager.

We are not advocating that social networking sites are to be used solely for job searching or building a web portfolio of your resume and job skills, but it makes sense to remove as much of the negative content about yourself as is possible. You should be smart and discreet in your online communications and consider creating private profiles for just your family members and friends.

There are many ways to create a “positive cyber profile” that does not affect your career prospects. College students can create personal web pages and profiles at social networking sites that include their resumes, hobbies and interests, details on leadership activities or academic successes. You can also include photos of yourself but ensure they do not include explicit materials. Job seekers can use their online profiles to demonstrate their excellent communication skills, establish a professional image of themselves prior to an in-person meeting, demonstrate their creativity and diverse interest – things that can set them apart from other job seekers.

As more and more users flock to social networking sites, the affect these sites have on the job search and candidate screening may include employers going even deeper into candidate’s personal and professional lives. It is therefore advisable to put nothing online that have the potential to hurt your future job prospects and include anything that would help you in landing a new job. Use common sense when creating an online profile. Remember that employers who do online searches are looking for reasons not to hire you.
